I hate to say I enjoyed the book because there is a lot of suffering that takes place in this survival story based on true events, so lets say I became wrapped up in the struggle and wanted to complete the book and get that poor navigator out of there ASAP and end his misery. When they emerged from the fog, they discovered they had overshot their objective and had emerged under the Cam Lo Bridge. I could picture myself as one of the rescue team members, or as one of the FAC pilots, or one of the officers back at the base trying to figure a way to get this downed officer out of the bush, so it worked to keep me involved. In reality, the actual 1972 mission to rescue Lt. Col. Hambleton was a very complex affair that lasted for 12 days, the downed airman finally being rescued by a two-man team consisting of a US Navy SEAL lieutenant (who won the Medal Of Honour in the process) and a South Vietnamese Army Ranger.
